BBC News Interview, South East Today, Thursday 25th May
Sarah Smith of BBC News observed that the open countryside can
look “like dream living, no hustle, no bustle and the feeling you
might not meet anyone for miles. But what if meeting someone, someone special,
is exactly what you DO want…then all this peace and quiet can lose
some of its appeal.”
The O’Brien family was interviewed at their rural home near Lewes
in East Sussex and explained why they set up the new dating site www.countryside-love.co.uk
to bring romance to country dwellers currently struggling. Mike explained
“It’s very difficult to find anywhere to meet people or to get
to know other people…if you live in a village and get separated or
divorced…..and go into the pub and see your ex husband or wife….it’s
difficult to form new relationships.”
Mike and his daughter Louise set up the matchmaking site. Both happily
married themselves, Mike to wife Robin for 35 years, they hope to play
countryside cupids to those who’ve had less luck.
“I think it’s a wonderful idea” said Candia Penfold
(member name countrylady). Candia’s daughter Kelly is also a
member of the CountrySide Love website (member name horsemad) and
explained “It’s really nice to be able to try and get
in contact with people with similar interests. It is hard to meet
people especially when you’re involved with horses, not many
people would put up with the 5am starts and all the mud!” Candia
concurs “I think a site like that probably gives one more opportunity
to meet someone…someone who enjoys the sort of things that I
like doing.”
